What to Do if Your Dog Bites Someone Nz
A dog owner from Llanengan in north west Wales is warning others to be conscious of snakes in their gardens after her own pets were intimidated by adders. In light of this, it's important to know what to do if your dog is bitten by a snake.
Natalie Garrod's eight-week-old puppy had a close encounter with an adder – the only wild venomous snake in the UK – over the Easter weekend, North Wales Live reports.
She was alerted to a problem after hearing her French Bulldog making unusual barking sounds in the garden. On inspection, she saw an adder was preparing to strike the small dog, but she was able to remove him before he was bitten.

"Obviously the snake was trying to protect itself but it was still very frightening," Natalie told North Wales Live. "We're having to keep the dogs on the decking – it's not very nice."
Natalie said this was the second snake she's seen in her garden in three days and it's not the first time her dogs have been in danger. Her other dogs, a Boxer and a Boston Terrier, have both been bitten previously.
"Each time we have to ring the vets and rush them there within 20 minutes to get them treated as the venom can spread so quickly. The dogs had to have injections to put their heart rates down and the boxer had to stay overnight once as it had been bitten two weeks apart one summer," Natalie continued.
What you need to know about adders
Adders are the only venomous snake in the UK and wake from hibernation in the spring, so they are more likely to be seen from March to October. They can vary in length from 40cm to 70cm and have zig-zag patterns on their backs.
According to the Wildlife Trusts, they prefer to live in woodland, heathland and moorland habitats.
They are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981 and are a Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework. This makes it illegal to harm an adder.
